I wish I had the technical know how to paste a You Tube video of a steam-powered wood box factory at work. Sounds exciting, right?
This video came to me via Woodweb, an online forum, from another forum, one that is dedicated to users of Shopbots, a brand of cnc machine.
There is no irony here, though. The video is a lovely piece of work in its own right. From calibrating digital readouts to squirting copious amounts of oil into 100+ year old machinery, each aspect of the manufacturing process is shown. There is no sound except for the machinery, which speaks well enough for itself.
And then there is the dog, who naps through the ruckus, and wanders in and out of camera shots. Reminding us, perhaps, that machines change, but the magic is always in our fingertips.
