This was a big week at the shop. Monday, the machine arrived. Tuesday the electricians did the wiring. Wednesday and Thursday were spent on the phone with software support techs, working out some kinks. By Friday, the CNC is up and running, cutting cabinet parts.
What is CNC? It stands for Computer Numeric Control. What the machine and its software does is take a drawing, convert the lines and circles that define an object into machining instructions called G code. The CNC reads the G code and performs the operations.
It cuts parts quickly and accurately. It's a lot of fun to watch it at work!

A picture of the production setup. A forklift brings material in from the delivery truck and holds the sheets in position just behind the CNC. Then sheets are slid onto the CNC table to be processed.
It takes about 18 minutes for the CNC to cut and machine all the parts that are laid out on a sheet of plywood. Much faster than conventional saw and boring machines, and a fraction of the material handling time.
